This project involved designing and supplying a livestock handling solution that would work within the client’s existing property layout, while making use of infrastructure already in place.
The yard was designed to suit a small excavated site beside an existing shed and to connect in with the client’s existing sheep yard. Rather than starting from a blank canvas, the layout needed to work around the available space, existing structures, and the way the client planned to use the yard day to day.
The finished system included a 50 head cattle yard with a vet crush, along with a 250 head sheep yard. Agribelt was also incorporated into the project to help provide additional protection and improve livestock flow through key handling areas.
This project is a good example of how thoughtful design can help create a workable livestock handling solution, even when space and existing infrastructure need to be carefully considered.
50 Head Cattle Yard
The cattle yard was designed to work in with the sheep yard, designed to suit smaller cattle handling requirements while still providing a safe and functional working area, including a vet crush for handling, treatment and animal management.
250 Head Sheep Yard
The sheep yard was designed to connect with the existing yard infrastructure and provide a practical layout for managing sheep within the available space.
Designed Around Existing Infrastructure
The layout was customised to fit beside the existing shed and utilise the client’s current sheep yard, helping make the most of what was already on site.
Every property is different, and this project required a layout that could work within a compact excavated area while still providing the client a functional cattle and sheep handling system.
By working understanding how the yards needed to operate, the final design was able to make use of the existing infrastructure while adding the extra handling capacity they needed.
Rather than applying a standard yard design, this project was planned around the site, the available space and the client’s livestock handling requirements.
