This King Island project involved replacing an ageing cattle race that had reached the end of its working life.
The client’s priorities were clear: they wanted Australian Made equipment, made from Australian steel and a race designed to support quieter and more controlled cattle movement.
The completed working area features a 180° Rotary Force Tub feeding into a curved race. Half-height sheeting provides visual guidance for cattle while still allowing handlers to reach calves when required. Cross breaking on the sheeting also helps reduce noise as livestock move through the race.
The new system was designed to connect with the property’s existing loading ramp and holding pens, creating a compact working area suited to the client’s livestock and day-to-day requirements.
Key Features
Rotary Force Tub
The 180° Rotary Force Tub guides cattle into the curved race. Its rachet-operated gate locks securely, helping prevent cattle from pushing back and giving the handler greater control.
Half-Height Sheeted Panels for Calves
The race was designed to handle calves. Half-height sheeting provides the visual barrier needed to guide livestock forward while allowing handlers easier access without having to reach over full-height sheeting.
Noise Reducing Panel Design
Cross breaking has been incorporated into the sheeted panels to reduce the rattling as cattle move through the race. Limiting unnecessary noise can help reduce distractions and support calmer livestock movement.
Yard Design & Flow
Effective yard design needs to reflect how livestock are handled on the individual property rather than relying on a standard layout.
For this property, the layout was designed to connect with the client’s existing loading ramp and holding pens. The rotary force tub and curved race were positioned to create a clear path through the working area while making effective use of the infrastructure already on site.
The finished project provides the client with a durable, purpose-designed system manufactured from Australian steel and suited to their specific handling requirements.
